Notes

This stemmed from a proactive meeting to bring scholars from many disciplines together to discuss migrations in general but it was motivated by growing anti-immigration sentiments in the public view in Europe. I was the only immigrant to Europe to speak at the meeting (and was introduced as such, "an immigrant to Europe"). I wrote this for a European audience; I might have written it a bit differently if I was aiming it for a US audience.
